The Wolfson Research Institute is a facility for co-locating the Tees Valley Vocational Training Scheme for General Practitioners with complimentary University activities including staff offices, general teaching rooms, research laboratory space and shared amenity space.

The initial concept proposals relating to the general layout, room / space considerations and 3D modelling were explored to find an appropriate building form to provide a suitable, contemporary pavillion extension to the existing Wolfson Research Institute, to enhance the existing building and campus.

The building occupies a significant frontage to the riverside walkway on the south shore of the River Tees and a glazed facade was developed to provide an appropriate landmark statement, as a direct contrast to the monolithic architectural forms of the Wolfson Institute.
